Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How much does it cost?
A.
£12.00 to register
your group. This allows you to enter as many teams as you
like.
Q. How is the competition judged?
A. Each team brings their creation to the
finals weekend where independent judges assess the machines and make
their recommendations. The public also vote for their
favourite.
Q. Can we buy in skills like welding or
paint spraying?
A. Yes providing the team has raised the
money themselves and the process is shown in the portfolio.
Q. Do the organisers of Youthbike provide
instructors?
A. No. However if you are having trouble getting an instructor and you have contacted your local bike shops, motorcycle clubs and or your local police then ring us and we may be able to help you find a contact in your area. We recommend that all instructors should be C.R.B. checked.
Q. Do the organisers provide camping
equipment for the finals weekend?
A. No. This is the responsibility of your own organisation. Some local authority children's services have a camp store that you can borrow or hire from.
Q. Will there be catering at the
event?
A. Yes and it is OK for you to cook your
own. (No Naked Flames or BBQ’s)
Q. When will the next final weekend
be?
A.
22 - 24 June 2012.
Q. Is there a charge for the finals
weekend?
A.
Yes but this is subsidised and is kept
to a minimum. The cost for 2012 is £10.00 per person for the whole
weekend.
Q. What is the age range for this
scheme?
A. From zero to 21. In some exceptional circumstances the age range may be extended to 25 in the case of a group with learning difficulties.
If we were to be approached by colleges and universities then a separate age group may be formed and judged separately. Q. Are risk assessments available?
A. A risk assessment of the venue/event
will be undertaken prior to the finals weekend but in order for this
to be valid for the event and venue it is not intended to be
available until approximately four weeks before the finals
weekend.
